A true performer... with a subtly quirky character.
A Chianti Riserva made of a selection of grapes from our best vines. Beautiful body and complex aroma – a pure Sangiovese in its most expressive form.
Count Ulrich von Toggenburg bought the wine estate Poggio Rozzi in 2004. With the sharp eye of an experienced farmer he recognised the potential hidden in this “ rough diamond” and began, step by step, to reveal its beauty. Ulrico, 100% Sangiovese, is dedicated to him. An authentic piece of Tuscany for a great admirer of all her beauty.
Appearance: Intensive ruby red with violet edges and a good visible consistency.
Aroma: On the nose an intensive and complex ensemble of red (cherries, raspberries, strawberries) and dark (blackcurrant, blueberry) fruits accompanied by notes of vanilla and cedar.
On the palate, dry warm and soft. Fine, mature tannins indicate a wine with a balanced, intensive structure and a lovely, long, focused finish.
Serve with: Meat dishes, especially grilled, and slightly mature cheese.
Grape variety: 100% Sangiovese
Only the very best grapes from our two best vineyards are used in the production of “Ulrico”. The vineyards “Vigna del Poggio” and “Vigna del Poggino” are situated at the very top of a hill, indeed “Poggio” is the Tuscan word for hill, and therefore they receive sun and fresh air throughout the day. In addition to these climatic benefits there is the quality of the soil, the perfect combination of loam, clay and sand. The fermentation takes place in concrete vats, then eight months in Tonneau casks. The wine is left to mature in its bottle for one year before being sold.
